Focus on... Kickstart

Thousands of young people have been affected by the downturn in the Covid-19 ravaged job market.

Young people like Alexie Dean, aged 25, who’d been unemployed for six months and had applied for more than 100 jobs before we helped kick-start his career and get it back on track.

We’ve been taking part in the Government’s Kickstart programme, which is a £2billion funded scheme designed to create high quality, six-month, paid work placements for unemployed young people claiming Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.

Alexie has been working as our project assistant – an opportunity that’s enabled him to expand his skill set, build up his CV and work towards a brighter future.

We’ve supported 22 customers into work this year, created three Kickstart placements and have committed to supporting six new Kickstart placements next year.

Young people are amongst the hardest hit by the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic, so we’re very proud to be able to create these new job opportunities for local people who may have otherwise struggled to secure employment.
