Focus on... Greenhaus

Eco-housing development Greenhaus is our most ambitious new-build project to date.

Working alongside our partners, construction is now underway to build the highly-sustainable and affordable apartment block on Chapel Street, opposite Salford Cathedral.

Greenhaus represents a new-era of new-build, affordable and eco-friendly homes that will be fit-for-the-future and contribute towards the battle against climate change.

The 96-home apartment block is being built to Passivhaus standards, which is a certified method of low-energy construction to build thermally efficient, ‘green’ homes with minimal energy required to provide heating and hot water.

By adopting Passivhaus standards, which is the gold standard for energy efficient buildings, we can future-proof the development, helping to alleviate fuel poverty and protect residents from rising fuel costs.

Focus on... Social Housing Tenants’ Climate Jury

Climate change is amongst the most pressing issues facing the world as we know it, and social housing providers, like ourselves, have a crucial role to play in tackling this challenge.

More than one million social housing properties in the North of England will require improvement work to make them more energy efficient. This year we have insulated 267 properties, but we know more needs to be done in order to turn the tide on climate change.

That’s why we were so proud to take part in the first ever Social Housing Tenants’ Climate Jury, which saw 30 social housing tenants from across the North of England, including Salix Homes tenants, come together to discuss how landlords can work together with our customers to help tackle climate change.

The Jury has successfully brought together a representative and inclusive group of social housing customers, who have learnt from and questioned experts, undertaken personal and group reflection and delivered a strong mandate for action.

Communication with customers was one of the key themes to come out of the Jury’s recommendations, and as we continue on our green-home upgrade journey, we’re committed to championing our customers’ views and keeping them involved every step of the way.
