Focus On: Net Zero
Salix Homes is committed to improving the energy efficiency of all our homes and buildings, which will benefit our tenants and the environment.
The Government has set a target that all social housing should have an EPC C rating by 2030, which is part of their ‘Net Zero’ ambitions to reduce the UK’s carbon emissions and help tackle climate change and global warming, as well as reduce people’s energy bills.
All new homes that Salix Homes builds are built to the highest energy efficiency ratings, however the majority of our homes across Salford are older properties and will require improvement work, which will make our properties warmer and cheaper to run.
This year we completed insulation work at several properties to improve energy efficiency, after securing funding through Wave 1 of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF). We’ve also secured a further £4.5milion funding in Wave 2 of the SHDF to carry out extensive retro-fit works at two tower blocks Greyfriar Court and Whitefriar Court – which will form part of a wider multi-million pound refurbishment programme at the two blocks.
Improving the energy efficiency of all our properties and buildings helps in the fight against climate change, but also brings real benefits to low-income households who are experiencing fuel poverty.
Energy prices are spiralling, so we’re committed to helping our tenants cut their energy usage through our programme of ‘green’ home improvement work, which not only cuts carbon emissions, but saves residents money on their bills.
